Pearl gemstone: Origin, benefits and how to wear it

A naturally occurring gemstone, pearl has an angelic appearance that appeals to many. While most are enchanted by its ornamental value, only a few are aware of the astrological and health benefits of pearl. Celebrity astrologer and renowned gemologist Sundeep Kochar presents a quick guide to the magnificent gemstones.

Origin of Pearl
Natural pearls are formed when an irritant – usually a parasite and not the proverbial grain of sand – works its way into an oyster, mussel, or clam. As a defense mechanism, a fluid is used to coat the irritant. Layer upon layer of this coating, called ‘nacre’, is deposited until a lustrous pearl is formed. It usually takes about 3 years for a pearl to get formed inside an oyster or mussel.
Benefits of wearing pearl
According to famous astrologer and gemologist SundeepKochar, pearls bring in great intellectual and health benefits, since the gemstone reflects the aura of the Moon. Hence, wearing pearls can instill clarity of mind, peace, good health and a state of calm.
The celebrity astrologer recommends wearing pearls to those individuals who are suffering from sleep disorders, emotional breakdowns and depression. “Wearing pearl aids peace and happiness in the life of a wearer by eradicating all fears and anxiety from his/her mind,” Sundeep Kochar says.
Due to the calm and peaceful aura it radiates, pearl is also recommended to people suffering from short temper and heart ailments. Also, pearls make an excellent wedding gift as they are found to improve marital relations by spreading love and harmony.
How to wear pearl gemstones?
Wearing any gemstone following the correct rituals is of utmost importance to benefit substantially. Celebrity astrologer and gemologist Sundeep Kochar suggests Monday as the perfect day to wear pearl, since it is ruled by the Moon. One should wear it within first hour of sunrise.
“Silver is the most advisable and auspicious metal to adopt pearl stone with. Hence, one should get the pearl set in a silver ring in such a way so that it touches the skin of the wearer, aiding the transfer of aura. Also, the pearl should be cleansed of negative energies by drenching it in cow milk or water. Afterwards, the following mantra should be chanted while wearing the gemstone: ‘Om Som Somaye Namah Om’,” suggests astrologer Sundeep Kochar.
